Project Management

Project Management:

I created a project management on a website called Trello, I did this because it would help me stay on track with the assignment, I feel like it will help a lot and this is because I will have something that tells me what I have to do, what I have done and what I am going to do next. I am going to use this to my advantage so I do not forget on what to do and that I do not go off topic.

Week 1:

This week I started I created my Trello but did not put much stuff in it at all, this was because I was going to focus on the research and the come back to it on the third week. This week I created and annotated the theme mind map and moodboard and this is because I was given the theme of Tribal so I created some research and annotated that. I then moved onto more research and this involved research on sound, visual and interactivity in games, I done this by creating a moodboard and a mind map for all 3 of these topics and then annotating it afterwards. I finally created a bibliography and added the links of where I got each of the media files from.

Week 2:

This week I done the final parts for my research and this involved me creating mind map ideas as well as moodboards for the ideas, for example a platformer moodboard and a top down moodboard, I then went on and annotated the moodboards and the mind maps for ideas and then came up with my final idea. I then went and started the proposal and I did this so I am on track and that I would not slip behind.

Week 3:

This week I focused on finishing my proposal this is because it was the deadline and that’s all I had left to do, I first started off by finishing off the description pathway, I then went on to the game description and this involved the description on what the game is going to be like, for example I spoke about what type of game it’s going  to be and a slight description about it. I then moved onto the game mechanics and this involved talking about what mechanics I am going to implement into the game, for example I said that I am going to implement movement for the character and this would be done with scripts which would make the character move left and right with ‘A’ and ‘D’ as well as making able to jump. I also wrote about how I am going to make a HUD with the characters health ans this would be done by collecting the health of the player and displaying it in the HUD. I then went on to talk about the target platform and the controls, for this I said that I am going to go with pc and this is because it is really easy to do the controls. The controls will most likely be ‘A’ and ‘D’ to move ‘Space’ to jump, ‘Left Click’ to shoot and ‘Escape’ to pause. I then went to talk about the narrative and any other relevant information and this involved the characters name and his family and how he ended up in the jungle. I then started to list the visual and sound assets that I would like to put inside of my game and also I listed the interactive assets and scripts.

Week 4:

This week I did my ideas generation and this and this involved me in looking up different types of styles for 2D games, I ended up looking at pixel art which I liked as well as traditional art which I am not too great at. I also then looked at top down games I enjoy to play and I looked at some platform games which I enjoy to create these as I have had some experience on Construct 2 with creating platformer games. I then also looked at isometric games, for example Diablo 3 which that was a game that I have played and I enjoyed the style and game play of it, the reason for me researching this is because I had an idea of me creating one of these styled games.

Week 5:

This week I started on my test pieces and I focused this throughout the week I started off by designing the main screen, I did not put much detail in the looks at all but that was because it is not the final prototype, the first script that I started off with was the code for the quit button, I did this because I needed to have this as if I didn’t I would have to restart the pc to close the game. I then did the scene changer script so I would be able to change scenes, this would be used to switch from the main screen to the help screen and back as well as for the button to go to the game and for the quit the game button. I then moved onto creating the help screen and this had a back button on it as well as the controls, the reason why I created this is because ton show that my scene changing code works and to show the controls for the test pieces. After this I then went and created the the test game scene and this only had a character, invisible walls and roof and well as a floor and this is because I only needed to test the coding for the movement. I then went on to starting the character movement, I got a little bit done for this and this involved doing the forces to make sure that the jump works.

Week 6:

This week I finished my test pieces and this was done by finishing off the player movement as well as doing the pause screen, I added not a lot of detail to the pause screen and this was due to it only being a test piece so I only put the important things on the pause screen, this included the quit button as well as the resume button. While coding the pause screen I realized that it looked odd and that was because normally in games they have the games brightness dim while the pause screen up, I then decided to do this, it involved me adding a large sprite that covers the whole screen on the pause canvas, I then made it black and turned the opacity down and this made it look like the brightness dimmed when the game is paused.
